Dear Artist,
How to Know when the Painting is Finished.
Name the Painting First.

I am usually miffed when I hear a painter brag they just start painting with no idea in mind. The belief is they have so much creativity in their souls that "ideas" just pour out!

What I'm really hearing is they have absolutely no idea before they start painting... and hope something just shows up.

A painting image should communicate a concept, not a phony title. For me,
I name the painting BEFORE I begin. When the painting resembles the title, I'm finished!

It starts with a dream.
Decide what you want, then make it happen.
